How to Install Mailgun on your WordPress Site?
Before installing Mailgun on your website, the first thing you need to do is create a Mailgun account at Mailgun.com. The free plan is fine; keep in mind that Mailgun offers a three-month trial period before it starts charging you for emails. Follow below on how to setup Mailgun in WordPress.
Once you have created your account, you need to login to your WordPress website’s dashboard. Then, on the left-hand panel, hover your mouse over the Plugins menu and click Add New.
Type “Mailgun” into the search box in the right corner after that. You’ll notice a list of other plugins, but we’ll be utilizing Mailgun for WordPress, the official plugin from Mailgun. Then click on the Install Now button next to the plugin.
Finally, click the Activate button next to the plugin to complete the process of adding it to your website.
Once activated, You will then need to go to the Mailgun plugin settings and configure the following:
- Select your Region
- Choose HTTP API, as we are using that in this example over SMTP
- Enter your Mailgun domain name
- Add your API key
- Click Tracking
- Open Tracking
- Enter from address: Example: noreply@domain.com.
- Enter “From Name”
You can select a region to which you want to send emails on the configuration page. Keep in mind that your region must match your Mailgun domain. If your Mailgun domain is set to US/North America, for example, you cannot configure your Mailgun region to Europe; it must be set to US/North America.
Make sure that “Yes” is selected for the Use HTTP API setting.
This ensures that mail is delivered using the Mailgun API rather than an SMTP port. The API configuration is more dependable and continues to function even when conventional mail ports are closed.
In the Mailgun Domain Name, copy and paste your Mailgun domain name. It can be found in your Mailgun dashboard under Sending > Domains.
Next is the API key. You can click the link from your WordPress dashboard,
Or you can go directly from your Mailgun account. On the top right panel, click on the dropdown arrow beside your account name and look for API Keys.
You’ll see a list of API Keys, but we’ll only be using the Private API Keys. This is what you’ll need for it to communicate with Mailgun and send your emails correctly. Copy and paste the API Keys to your Mailgun Settings in your WordPress admin.
Click Tracking: we recommend setting this to no because it can cause issues with tracking emails when they’re sent to see if they’ve been opened or not. Statistics are useful, but they might cause problems with spam filters. Same thing with Open Tracking; in order to have the most basic setup possible, It’s recommended to set this to no.
From Address and From Name: This is basically where you wanted the emails to show who sent them. For the Override “from” details, you can just leave it as default.
Finally, once set, click on Save Changes and hit Test Configuration.” Your browser will display a message stating that it has been configured and is ready to use. If you see this, you should be receiving emails from the Mailgun plugin.
